FAQs

About Our Products

What are your products made from?

Our products are made from a composite material much like plaster and a water-based eco-friendly resin that doesn't contain any solvents and VOCs like regular resins.

Why does my product have little holes?

Due to the nature of the material and curing process there will be some air bubbles. These happen when the air bubbles in the material rise to the surface while curing. We try our best to limit these as much as possible.

The History of Terrazzo

Terrazzo has an interesting history with roots all over the globe. Going back more than 500 years in Italy where marble was the main material of choice. Venetian workers would use scrap marble
fragments that they saved from their upscale projects, placing them in a mortar base for their own residences and terraces. Terrazzo is frequently used in flooring, but we have modernized it by creating housewares in colors and shapes for today's lifestyle.

Product Care

How do I care for my item?

Our items are sealed with a wax we make in the studio and we're giving you the recipe for free below! Although our products are sealed, they are only water resistant, not waterproof. Do not soak or let your terrazzo piece stand in water.

Terrazzo pieces can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. Using any harsh cleaning products or extended exposure to water and scrubbing will damage the surface of your piece.

Stainless steel straws and glass pieces can be safely washed in a dishwasher.

Polish as often as necessary. We would recommend every other month or more if it is used often.

Free Polishing Wax Recipe

This homemade polish is great on anything that is made from wood as well. It can clean, polish or restore any of the following items in your home, such as:

Wood Furniture

Butcher Block countertops

Wooden utensils

Cutting Boards

If using on cutting boards and utensils, you’ll want to ensure that the beeswax is food grade and safe for use with items that touch food.

Make sure to do a small test on an unseen area before fully polishing.

Ingredients

.5 oz beeswax pellets*

1.5 oz coconut oil

15 drops of lemon,
lavender or orange essential oil – optional

Directions

Combine the beeswax and coconut oil into a canning jar.

Heat over a double boiler or microwave for a few seconds at a time until the wax has melted.

If you want to add fragrance to your furniture polish, drop in essential oils into the mixture now.

Give the polish a quick stir and then you can let it sit to harden and firm up in the jar, about 3-4 hours.

Once it has cooled, you can add a lid and store the jar in a cool dark place.
